Towns and Accommodation
The walk takes you through many small seaside villages and some larger regional cities. Most of the towns/villages have a reasonable range of accommodation that can be booked through your preferred online booking agency. Hotels, motels, caravan parks and holiday homes. But in some smaller outlying areas there may only be 1 or 2 options. Before departing on the trip it will be necessary to book all the accommodation in these smaller locations and during the summer holidays do so well in advance as you may find a lot of places booked out. The best time to travel in this area to limit booked out accommodation is March-November.
The first step is Melbourne and it is recommended that you spend some time here exploring this exciting city with its abundance of accommodation, restaurants and tourist sites. Before starting the walk take a look at the indigenous tourist opportunities. These are listed on the information for Stage 1.
Towns and accommodation are separated into four sections incorporating a few walking stages in each section. The selection of accommodation options are an indication only of the variety available and do not carry any specific recommendations. Where possible a list of up to four (4) in a couple of categories have been created, covering a range of costs and a note (+more) where there are more available to look further. In order to simplify the accommodation search Booking.com and AirBnB have been used, together with Google for some not available through these booking sites, such as Caravan Parks with their own website or telephone booking only.
The accommodation prices are quoted for two (2) guests but it is not known whether single occupancy is available. Quite a number of accommodation places in this region provide options for 4+ people, with a small fee for additional guests over 2, travelling with a group would reduce the per person cost for accommodation. If a single occupancy is required an individual request would need to be made to determine what the rate might be.
To provide an idea of cost the following scale has been used (all AU$):
$ = less than $75
$$ = $75-00
$$$ = $100-50
$$$$ = $150-200
$$$$ = $200+
